Bojagh National Park is a region located in Kiashahr, Gilan province, and it holds the honor of being the first registered “land-sea national park” in Iran. Unfortunately, this wetland is currently facing terrible conditions in terms of the diversity and number of animals. A total of 234 species of birds from 49 different genera have been observed in the park, out of which 12 are endangered species, and are included in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Bojagh National Park is a sanctuary for migratory birds, and is also a breeding ground for waterfowl and shorebirds. However, the people living in the surrounding areas are heavily engaged in fishing and hunting, which is causing a major problem for the park’s ecosystem. The people of this region rely on hunting for their livelihood. As a way to help preserve the park’s animal population, I often buy the hunted ducks and release them back into their natural habitat.
